What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition when the tissue similar to the tissue that forms the lining of your uterus-endometrium grows outside of your uterine where it doesn’t belong.

In this condition, microscopic bits of the tissues can usually grow on the organs such as ovaries, fallopian tubes, outside of the uterus, the ligaments that support the uterus, abdominal organs, the space between the uterus and the rectum, and the space between the uterus and the bladder.

Pelvic pain can be considered the most common symptom of endometriosis. It is a common problem among women which can cause painful periods and heavy bleeding, painful vaginal sex, and infertility.

There are maybe several theories on why endometriosis makes it harder to get pregnant. One of them is a person having endometriosis in their body tissue that grows on ovaries, fallopian tubes, or the outside of the uterus. Similar to the lining of the uterus it sheds and causes bleeding. But due to no way to leave the body it causes pain and swelling. It can also create a blockage in the fallopian tubes which leads to a difficult situation in pregnancy cases. This condition can also lead to the risk of miscarriages.

According to endometriosis.org, endometriosis affects an estimated 176 million women worldwide regardless of their ethnic and social background. Many remain undiagnosed and are therefore not treated.

All these factors indicate endometriosis is a complex situation that can impact several things.

Abortion and endometriosis:

Doctors are not sure what causes endometriosis, still, there is a prevalent myth that claims that abortion can cause endometriosis which is not the fact. Here let’s not confuse between endometriosis and endometritis (irritation or inflammation in the lining of the uterus) as they both are not the same. Here we are referring to endometriosis and not endometritis.

The fact is abortion does not cause endometriosis. In fact, It has been reported that there is a reduced risk of endometriosis in women who reported a history of induced abortion.

All these facts indicate and vouch for the fact that it is certainly safe to use abortion pills when you have endometriosis. You should also know the fact that Mifepristone has proved itself to be very effective in treating endometriosis.

A note from HowToUse:

We are all aware of the fact that when it comes to choosing an abortion it gets very easily associated with prejudice and stigma that leads to drive several dialogues around abortion. Hence, facts and reliable information get blurred with fear and misinformation.
